Enosoi

Deity of Creation, Balance, Unity and Chaos

"A very powerful deity that has no worshipers. There seems to be no mythologies or history recorded
regarding this deity, only their downfall."

Enosoi is a trans-dimensional deity who creates universes just to eventually destroy them when they aren’t valuable to them no longer. Like each universe is a toy they got bored with or a failed experiment. As other deities saw their reckless and power-hungry behaviour, they decided to put an end to this chaotic deity. Scheme after scheme, blow after blow, the rest of the pantheon defeated the deity. The pantheon decided for Enosoi to be buried in a different plane of existence, the realm of nothingness, and be set on an infinite slumber that they shall endure for the rest of eternity. However, in their rage, as Enosoi tried to claw out of desperation, they dragged the other deities down with them. They half succeeded. The other deities remained awake but were now stuck on a different plane of existence, the realm of Dreams, where they couldn’t directly interact with their wonderful creations. Despite the lack of power, they now possessed, the deities tried hiding all information on Enosoi, they succeeded for the most part, only hints of that deity remaining. Many to this day have talked and interacted with the deities, even created them murals and churches in their honour. However, for their unknowable and unspeakable acts, the one deity that shall not be worshipped or named was the Deity of Creation, Balance, Unity, and Chaos. As the deity was buried in the deepest depths of the known dimensions, the core of all their power, the crystal sitting in their form, was shattered into ten pieces, and spread across the continent. Either for good or for bad, those who miraculously find about their existence are divinely driven to collect them. There are two options once the crystals are collected.Option 1: When they are assembled, the ability to shatter the crystal into mere atoms is presented to them. This can only be done with the Sword of the Imperishable which was divinely gifted by Enosoi when they still roamed the earth. Therefore, ending the immature and selfish cycle of creation and destruction that Enosoi represents.Option 2: On the other hand, when they are assembled, the holder will have the option to summon them to the material realm. This can be done if the deity’s name is known to the summoner. The name can only be told by Enosoi themselves, which is a difficult task to achieve. Once summoned, Enosoi will finally have the power to end this universe and move on to the next.

Aetos

God of Strength, Prosperity, Entertainment and the Sun

"He is seen as one of the most powerful deities in the pantheon. Lies with mostly with musical entertainers and farmers in order to bless them with good luck and wealth."

Desporida

Goddess of Nature, Peace, Magic and Wisdom

"A kind but incredibly powerful goddess that lies with creatures that care for the land that they reside in and works to redeem others by leading them to a better track."

Damascus

Deity of the Winds, Transportation, Beauty and the Trade

"A flamboyant deity who lies with and protects travellers and merchants. They have a known rivalry between them and Nero. They are the protector of the race, courtesy of Goldenhorn."

Nero

God of the Sea, Justice and Change

"An aggressive god that stands for action and justice, no matter the person’s personal morals. But also just like water, he likes change. Has a known rivalry with Damascus."

Elaptura

Goddess of Divination, Mirrors and the Night Sky

"A lesser-known and mysterious goddess who lies among oracles and diviners, especially those whose divination is devoted to her. Younger sister to Desporida."

Schnee

Goddess of Freedom, Agape, Celebration and Death

"A complicated goddess, that accepts followers from every path. However, she loves creatures with interesting paths no matter the alignment. She’s a newer energy that has manifested in the world."

Because of a corruption with my old computer, I lost some files. The ideation and brainstorming stage for this deity was one of the files.

Ciarra

Goddess of Attraction, Eros, Fertility and Arachnids

"Most activities associated with this goddess involve the sexual nature of mortals, so she embarks on the lives of those who live in promiscuity."

Because of a corruption with my old computer, I lost some files. The ideation and brainstorming stage for this deity was one of the files.

Demeter

She was difficult to define as a character. Should she be stern and serious or angry and stout? Following the usual Film Noir protagonist character type, I decided to make her a more hard-boiled detective type of character, with the added emotion of an emotional mother. While designing her, I also decided to make her hat bear fruit of the wintertime with her wearing all black. To symbolise that devastation she brings and her mourning state. Her attire would be lighter during the summertime with summer fruit on her hat.

I wanted to make her this older figure. Not only because of her motherhood but also because older women are rarely the protagonists of games or even stories in the wider storytelling sphere, like movies and books. You also might notice the accents of colour on her outfit and her eyes. This is a constant throughout all of the designs. Looking at various media that depict the Hellenic Gods, they usually have a god represented by a certain colour, like Disney’s Hercules. However, with my restrictions of the story viewed through film noir aesthetics. I had to be sparse with colour use. So I put colour only on their eyes and a representation of their godhood, for the most part.

Persephone

Although Persephone doesn't make a gigantic appearance in this version of the myth. She is certainly an important character. She is a character that haunts the narrative. For her design, I decided to go for a more bright and puffy outfit that young women of the time wore, differentiating her from the other, darker and more corporate character designs. I wanted Persephone's design to instead take inspiration from more mainstream outfits of young adult women in the 50s.

To differentiate her character from the others further, she also has the most colour and brightness out of everyone in the cast – with not only her outfit being entirely white but the whole dress pattern being coloured with her signature colour, taking her further away from the gritty feeling of Film Noir.

Zeus

While with Hades, I had a clear idea of what his silhouette and overall design would be. I created Zeus with Hades’ silhouette in mind. I wanted them to match one another. While Hades was taller and lankier, I wanted Zeus to be a bit shorter and buffer. This was to show how different types of power and villainy can be portrayed in character designs.

Zeus was tricky to design. I needed to create a boss type of character who looked high and mighty and didn’t have to try because he was the boss of everything. I really focused on the face for this reason, trying different head shapes and features. I think I hit the nail right on the head with the design though.I wanted to make him seem… like a jerk to put it nicely… having this design peer-reviewed helped me get a sense of what kind of character he seemed like just based on physical traits. Let's say that the feedback gotten had affirmed the design choices I had made for his final design. With his only nod to his godhood being his lighting tie, Zeus has shed his suit jacket for something more casual. Showing off his arrogance as the head of Olympia and not having to work as hard to prove himself like the rest of the Gods.

Hades

I already had a good idea of his silhouette from the beginning. I was very set on making Hades lanky and was also set on the type of clothing he would wear. So I didn’t feel like I needed to go through the full character design process. This longness of his silhouette was carried to his face, specifically the nose. I think it really added to the overall look.

This design is pretty simple compared to some others but it is still effective in portraying Hades. The nod to him being a god, specifically Hades is the staff that he leans on. It has the three dog skulls, representing both Cerberus and the dead at once. The darker attire and colours used can also symbolise the dark robes that Hades wears in the original myths. With these designs, I attempted to work with the shape language more. For example, Hades is made up of angles of all kinds. Elements of his design are made up of triangles with his over silhouette being a square. This shows as a character while he is solid, reliable and stuck to his ways shown via the overall square silhouette. There is an element of danger and unpredictability with him, shown via the triangles all throughout his design.

Hecate

With Hecate, I decided to go towards a Femme Fatale type of character design. I felt as if I was doing a film noir inspired project. I should have a femme fatale character. And as she is a chthonic goddess, meaning that she resides in the underworld or works with death in some capacity, that would make her a perfect fit for this trope. So like Hades, I didn’t do much exploration as I had envisioned her as she is now from the moment I thought of her. However, in traditional film noir, a femme fatale is usually there to weaken the spirit of the male protagonist by her direct influence. Because of this, I decided to flip the character type on its head. Instead of being a temptation and a hindrance to the protagonist, she is instead a help to the protagonist by telling Demeter that she saw Persephone last before her disappearance and helping her by infiltrating Underworld. Inc, getting more information for Demeter. She is still weakening a male character but it is the perpetrators that she is weakening instead.

As Hecate is not a well-known goddess; I felt as if I needed more hints to what kind of goddess she is. Her design gives the most nods to godhood than the rest of the lineup. As a goddess of magic and witchcraft, I have her wielding this red energy and the tail ends of her dress are also wafting away. She is often represented as a goddess with 3 bodies, I made homage to this with her hat having her other two faces. She is also represented by keys and snakes which are represented by her jewellery. With these designs, I wanted to focus primarily on the shape language of their silhouette. In traditional animated media, silhouette cues are an important tool to tell a character’s motives and personality without audibly telling the audience. Silhouette is also important in a film noir scenario, where the lighting is low. Even with the mysterious nature of film noir, the audience needs to be able to recognise the silhouette, so that the basic design reads.

Hermes

With this design, I especially enjoyed working on his expressions. Having the wings to play around with and making his eyes not visible and instead using the glass shape as his eyes emoting, really brings a more cartoony and cheekier feel to his character, akin to the way Hermes is depicted in mythos.Showing all of these designs to peers and making them match the name to the face was very useful, as I could take note of what designs were more effective than others and what I could do to change them to make them recognisable to a wider audience. In the end, 90% of people guessed correctly and the 10% admitted to me that they didn’t know Greek Myth all that well.
